It's a pleasantly warm evening, with mostly sunny skies. Today has featured hazy sunshine with a build-up of clouds during the late morning into the late afternoon hours... but there have been no showers today in our immediate area. My afternoon high was identical to yesterday's, topping out at 84.9F (29.4C) -- but the difference is that the humidity has dropped again today.
There are a couple of thundershowers roaming the mountains to our northeast this evening, otherwise things are quiet across Himachal Pradesh. At this point, it seems that fairly calm weather should hold on until the very end of the week, as general high pressure sprawls from Pakistan into northwest India. This feature is blocking the advance of deeper tropical moisture associated with the surge along the leading edge of the monsoon. As long as we remain in this position, showers will be relatively scarce, and temperatures should stay near or even a few degrees above normal for the latter half of June.
I'm still very curious about development by the weekend. There are signs that this blocking high pressure area will weaken, allowing pre-monsoon moisture to surge northwestward along the leading edge of the mountains. It's all very uncertain at this point, but be ready for a dramatic increase in humidity and rain chances by late Saturday and Sunday...
