We have sunshine and some light haze across the area early this morning. I had another brief, very light shower at my location last night around 9:00pm, but again, nothing measurable... I've logged trace amounts of rainfall on four of the past five days. My overnight low temp was a pleasant 70.7F (21.5C), which is the coolest since the 27th of May.
Mornings have been full of sun lately, but clouds and random light thundershower action have started to take over the afternoons. We'll continue to see weak disturbances in the upper atmosphere slide across the very warm air at the surface, causing the PM development of clouds and thunder/light showers, but it remains to be seen if we can get much in the way of significant rainfall out of all this. By this time last year, we were already getting some pre-monsoon tropical moisture up here along the mountains, but this year has been totally different. Our air mass remains quite dry, and it looks like we have a long way to go before we see the deep, rich tropical moisture arrive. Still, be aware of the thundershower risk as the week goes on.
Our temperatures remain just a shade above normal for early June, and there is no sign of any dramatically cooler air moving in -- apart from the temporary cool-downs associated with passing thundershowers. But at least things are more pleasant and tolerable than they were during the height of our heatwave late last week...
