Our Monday is ending very differently from the way it began! We have lots of sunshine this evening, along with comfortably warm temperatures. Clouds dominated the scene, along with some random sprinkles and very light showers, until just after noon when the sunshine started to take over. I only had enough rain to wet the bottom of the rain gauge at my location in the upper part of town, but there could have been something barely measurable in a few spots. My high temp reached just 77.5F (25.3C), but there was most likely great variability in temperatures across the area, due to the differing amounts of sunshine at different elevations.
West-northwesterly flow in the upper atmosphere has kept us dealing with the occasional passage of weak disturbances and pools of colder air aloft which have been developing over the western Himalayan region for almost a week now. In spite of the lack of moisture, these little ripples have been able to generate clouds and light showers, while limiting the advance of much warmer air poised just to our south. I'm fairly confident that the bubble of high pressure/warmth building over northern India will exert more and more of an influence on us during the coming 48 hours or so... increasing stability and thus, diminishing the amount of cloudiness and shower potential. Anything goes here along the edge of the Dhauladars, however!
Although we've had a slight delay... major warming is still in the forecast as we head through the week. I'm expecting the second-warmest streak of temperatures of the season beginning as early as tomorrow (Tuesday), and lasting into the weekend.
