We have totally overcast skies early this morning, thanks to the remnants of a large area of thundershowers that has drifted in from northern Pakistan overnight. Although there have been some sprinkles and very light showers around the area, I've only recorded a trace of rainfall since last night. That keeps our 24 hour total at 0.19" (5mm). It is relatively cool this morning -- my overnight low has been 65.3F (18.5C).
A weak but large upper-level system covers much of the northern parts of Pakistan and India this morning. This system has been bringing in cooler air aloft for the past few days, which has finally been able to win the battle with the remaining very warm air lingering at the surface since our recent heatwave. Thundershowers yesterday afternoon and last night have transported some of this cooler air down to the surface, allowing us to enjoy a mid-summer break from the heat. We should see some sunshine attempting to break through today, but satellite photos are showing quite a bit of cloudiness to contend with as well. Also, be aware that we could still see a period or two of showers and thunderstorms both today and Thursday... although rainfall amounts should remain generally light.
Warmer air will begin to surge back and redevelop over northern India by the weekend, while the risk of showers and thunderstorms diminishes. Enjoy this natural A/C break, because there will be more heat to contend with in days to come...
