Our skies are mostly cloudy across the area this evening -- it's very warm, and humidity has been on the increase during the past few hours. There was a lot of strong sunshine until after 2:00pm, and that allowed the high temperature at my location on Tushita Road to reach 90.1F (32.3C). That's the seventh time this season that I've recorded a high temp at or above 90F. The rapid build-up of clouds during the mid-afternoon yielded a few random sprinkles just after 3:00pm, but there was no measurable rainfall in the area as far as I am aware.
From the way the weather charts are looking this evening, I think our time is running out. This unusually warm and dry summer season is already transitioning into pre-monsoon conditions, as tropical moisture edges northwestward. The bubble of high pressure which has been protecting us recently will weaken and retreat over the weekend into early next week, and that should allow us to experience an increasing chance of scattered shower and thundershower action. And as we all know -- it's well past time.
Temperatures will be gradually trending downward during the next several days, but that cooling trend will be counteracted by a simultaneous increase in humidity. For that reason, it may not be much more comfortable. We may be dealing with some of the most unpleasantly warm and muggy overnight conditions of the year between now and Sunday.
