This is the third morning in a row with mostly cloudy skies. There were some sprinkles/very light showers again last night (along with very gusty winds) just after dark, but not enough rain to measure. I'm recording an overnight low temp of 68.2F (20.1C).
Rainfall amounts in the past few days have been ridiculously low, considering the amount of cloudiness, and even thunder and gusty winds that we've been dealing with at times. The sprawling, wobbly area of low pressure aloft and associated colder air in the upper atmosphere remains over northern India, but is weakening and retreating to the northeast. Satellite photos still show quite a lot of cloudiness in the vicinity... and the forecast challenge for the day is whether or not the sunshine can break through to allow our temperatures to quickly rebound. The other concern is the potential for the development of a round of showers and thundershowers at some point today. I think we will see some sun... but I also think there is a decent chance of at least isolated thundershowers popping up along the slopes of the Dhauladars this afternoon. Keep that in mind if you'll be out and about.
Warmer air in all levels of the atmosphere is expected to surge back into Himachal Pradesh during the coming few days. That should quickly take our temperatures back to normal (perhaps even a bit above) for this stage of June -- but pockets of instability will keep the risk of a mainly PM thundershower in the forecast over the weekend as well.
