summer not over... (am.14.jun.12)>

Bright sunshine dominates the scene early on this Thursday morning.  We're getting a warm start to what should be a borderline HOT day.  I recorded an overnight low of 75.4F (24.1C) here in the upper part of town, and there has been no rainfall in the past 24 hours.

The upper-air pattern across most of the western Himalayan region and north India is very quiet.  Temperatures in all levels of the atmosphere have warmed considerably during the past couple of days, which has erased most of the pockets of instability which had been lingering earlier.  The risk of random thundershower development over the mountains during the afternoon hours still exists, but our air mass remains quite dry, so it's unlikely we'll get anything that can bring us significant rainfall.  More common during the next several days will be hazy sunshine and heat.

During the four days from the 30th of May until the 2nd of June, I recorded high temperatures above 90F (32.2C) -- the highest being 93.4F (34.1C) on the 31st of May.  I'll be surprised if we can exceed that stretch of hot temperatures... but between now and early next week, we definitely stand a chance!  Another period of peak summertime heat is knocking on the door.
