It is mostly cloudy across the area this evening, and a few showers are lurking. Hazy sunshine quickly gave way to developing cloudiness by mid- late morning, thanks to our increasingly humid air mass. There was a brief downpour of rain between 1:00 and 1:30pm, which brought 0.09" (2mm) to my rain gauge in the upper part of town. If any of my readers in other locales had a vastly different amount, I'd love to hear from you. Temperatures were held down a bit today by the clouds and humidity... I recorded a high of 83.7F (28.7C).
Average relative humidity is now approaching 50% -- compared to just 20-30% up until a couple of days ago. That is an indication that we're finally getting into a genuine pre-monsoon pattern. Forecast data is pointing to a continuing increase in humidity levels along the leading edge of the mountains from western Nepal and Uttarakhand into Himachal Pradesh... all the way into the middle of next week. I think that means we can kiss our days of sunny and crispy-dry weather goodbye for this season. Although there will be occasional surges and retreats of pre-monsoon tropical moisture during the coming week or two, our transition into Monsoon 2012 is definitely underway.
Expect occasional showers/thundershowers which will have the potential to produce moderate to briefly heavy rainfall over the course of the next several days.
