There are just a few clouds here and there, otherwise it is mostly clear at sunrise on this Saturday morning. Despite the lightning all around us late last evening, my rain gauge is empty this morning. My temperature here on Tushita Road just below the mountaineering center dipped to 71.6F (22.0C) just after midnight, but it is back up to 74.5F (23.6C) just before 7:00am.
The transitional phase into the monsoon season is one of the most interesting times of the year. Some years, it can take weeks -- while other years it happens in a matter of just a few days. The surges of tropical humidity we've experienced during the past few days is indication that we are now definitely into pre-monsoon conditions, but during this early phase, there will be plenty of surges and retreats of that thick/muggy air. We've been in a "retreat" phase again overnight into this morning, with lower humidity and a more pleasant feel to the air. But get used to this back-and-forth business during the coming several days. We'll see periods of sunshine, but also rapid build-ups of clouds and potential sudden downpours.
