The sky is brightening up just a bit before sunset this evening, after a day that has featured clouds, sunshine, and even a couple of light rain showers during the mid-afternoon. I recorded a high temp of 55.9F (13.3C) around 1:00pm, and another 0.04" (1mm) of rain since this morning's report.
The last 18 hours or so have certainly put a big dent in our progress toward springtime weather. Waking up to a couple of inches of snow in Naddi and Dharamkot was not a pleasant thing for many... and there are reports of nearly one foot of snow at Galu Temple... and more than two feet up at Triund! This is why we have to be cautious and conservative as we anticipate seasonal changes in our part of the world.
The weather system responsible for the thunderstorms and snow early this morning is moving out of the picture now, which will allow us to resume our incremental steps in the direction of warmer, more spring-like conditions. A ridge of high pressure will build across the plains of north India during the next few days, forcing the main branch of the jetstream northward, and keeping us clear of the primary storm track. A couple of our computer models are forecasting a very aggressive warming trend as we get into the weekend... which will likely take our temps to the highest levels of the year...
