As sunset approaches, we have clear skies to the south and west, with clouds to the north and east over the mountains. Showers and thundershowers developed up in the higher elevations from Kashmir through Himachal into Uttarakhand this afternoon... but we were able to get away with generally sunny skies. I recorded a high temp of 59.2F (15.1C)... but it was another one of those days when it felt warmer than that in the direct sun... but cooler in the shade.
There is still a rather large pool of unseasonably cold air in the upper-atmosphere... centered over northern Pakistan and western Kashmir this evening. It is responsible for creating the instability in the mountains today. Tonight and Thursday, it will be sliding to the southeast... which will continue to make us candidates for picking up a period of showers and thunderstorms. Nothing heavy or long-lasting is expected, but we are defnitely not in a position to be assured of totally dry weather during the next 24 hours or so. Factor that into your Holi plan-making.
The weekend is looking generally quiet, but rather cool for March. The flow aloft will still be riddled with small, fast-moving disturbances, though, so we'll have to be ready to introduce a small chance of a passing thundershower at some point. Otherwise, the vast majority of our daylight hours should be good for roof-top lounging...
