The sun is trying to show itself in the western sky this evening, but it's mostly cloudy at the moment... thanks to a massive build-up of clouds over the mountains this afternoon. The amount of sunshine was in indirect proportion to how high up the mountain you were... but there was nice sun here in town for most of the morning into the early afternoon. My high temperature was 58.8F (14.9C), and there has been no rainfall as of the time of this post.
Satellite photos show a wide area of cloudiness and embedded showers and thundershowers over the mountains of Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand early this evening... thanks to milder air attempting to flow in at the lower elevations combined with lingering very cold air aloft. That's often the story here, which keeps us on the edge of the clouds, while the sun is shining brightly just down the hill.
Other than flirting with this mountain-induced instability, the general weather pattern should remain fairly quiet for the next several days. The headline news is that we are expecting the season's biggest push of warm air as we approach the weekend; which will be quite dramatic, if it indeed materializes. One computer model is showing 31C (88F) for Kangra on Sunday... an indication that things are about to change around here as well...
