the sun has been trying desperately to peek through the clouds and fog since late this afternoon, but hasn't been entirely successful. we only had a bit of drizzle and a couple of very light rain showers earlier today, but significant rains have failed to materialize... the high temp today in upper mcleod ganj was 18C/64.4F
i have been surprised that we haven't had much rain today, since conditions have been in place for another round or two of heavy showers. current satellite pics show very little happening across northern india at the moment, despite lingering moisture and an unstable airmass. the computer model guidance says that there is still a decent shot at rain and thunderstorm development overnight... so although i am starting to get skeptical, it would be wise to maintain the possibility. but, starting tomorrow, our monsoon will be loosening its grip for this season. from this weekend into the middle of next week, an area of high pressure at the surface will begin to build and strengthen over rajasthan and gujarat. at the same time, winds in the upper atmosphere will begin to blow briskly from the west and northwest. this is a recipe for dramatic drying... which should gradually chase away the rain, clouds and fog... and lower the humidity for the long term.
