monday morning (13sep)>

i tossed and turned nearly all night... listening to the rain, and thinking i had better go check the rain gauge before it overflowed.   finally, when i checked at 515am, i had 3.85" (9.8cm)... and the gauge only holds 4 inches!  so, i emptied it, but it is still raining quite heavily, so there will be more to report later this morning.  our early morning temp is 15.5C/60F.

**UPDATE @ 812am**  i have received an additional 2.45" (6.2cm) of rain since 515am... bringing the total in the past 13 hours to 6.3" (16cm).  here at the weathergeek office, that is the heaviest one-day rainfall total of the entire monsoon season!  our observers near the main temple recorded 3.8" (9.7cm) as of 630am, but obviously there has been much more since then.  our naddi village observer's rain gauge was overflowing, so he apologized for the lack of an accurate report this morning!!  as rain continues to fall... be aware of FLOODING, LANDSLIDE and ROAD WASHOUT potential for the next several hours...

the rain we are getting now is what i really thought we would start getting over the weekend... that's why i mentioned last night that i was perplexed.  it seems that the atmosphere was just storing up more and more energy, which is being released NOW.  lots of thunder and lightning, as the satellite pics show clusters of very slow-moving thunderstorms continuing to re-develop right on top of us.  this rainy, thundery scenario will continue off and on today... but we're still expecting a gradual turn to drier conditions (meaning, less humidity, lower rainfall potential) as we head into the middle and latter parts of the week.

in case you missed it, i posted some info on determining the official withdrawal of the monsoon... scroll down below this post to check it out.
