saturday morning>

we have partly cloudy skies and a rather cool 16C/61F early this morning. there were only a few sprinkles of rain overnight... but nothing measurable. my total rainfall for the past week here in upper mcleod ganj is 6.07" (15.4cm)... most of that occurred between monday evening and tuesday morning.

there are showers and thundershowers evident on the satellite pics this morning down around chandigarh and shimla... with a few random showers also scattered across punjab, other parts of himachal pradesh and southwestern kashmir. we should see a variety of weather today, and for the next several days... a bit of sun, periods of fog and clouds, along with occasional showers. conditions aren't right for any widespread areas of rain, but despite a gradually weakening monsoon pattern, there will still be lots of moisture around, right through the end of this 5 day forecast period.

keep an eye on the small ferns that grow on tree trunks. when they gradually begin to turn from green to yellow, that means that their available moisture is decreasing... which is a fail-safe indication that the monsoon is coming to an end. so far, my ferns near my balcony are looking healthy and green!
