we are enjoying some sunshine this evening, after 6.75" (17.1cm) of rain during the past 24 hours... most of which fell between 700pm last night and 11am today. here in upper mcleod ganj (just below tushita and the mountaineering center) that was the largest single rain event of the monsoon season. it has been a very cool day, with the high temp only reaching 19C/66F... and during the heavy rain early this morning, the temp dipped to 14C/57F, which is the coolest since the 9th of june.
things are fairly settled across our part of north india this evening... and should stay that way for the most part. there is still a decent shot at some showers and thundershowers tomorrow, but i'm still expecting the atmosphere to dry out quite a bit starting on wednesday, and continuing through friday. we can't rule out a few random late day showers, but humidity levels will drop significantly, which will mean less fog and more hours of sun. if you're looking for the definitive end of the monsoon, you might be disappointed to hear that another surge of tropical moisture will push back into northern india by the weekend, so our period of drier weather will probably not be permanent...
