once again, we've had it all today... a couple of hours of nice sunshine in the morning, clouds and a period of thick fog in the early afternoon, a short but fierce thundershower in the mid-afternoon, and now more sunshine in between clouds this evening. i recorded 0.20" (0.5cm) of rain between 3 and 4pm, along with a high temperature of 21.5C/70F.
as i mentioned a couple of days ago, it is quite clear that we are straddling the line between monsoon conditions and more pleasantly dry fall weather. this extremely fickle weather will continue for the next 3 days or so, meaning... some sun, some fog, and a few potent thundershowers. some of our trusty computer models are still trying to squeeze out some heavy rainfall between now and tuesday, so be on the lookout for rapidly developing thunderstorms... especially during the PM hours. after that, i am conservatively optimistic that a true and lasting blast of drier air will arrive. winds in the mid- and upper levels of the atmosphere will become westerly by wednesday, and that should drive most of the tropical/monsoon moisture out of here. since wednesday is the 15th of september... that would be exactly according to schedule. of course that is still a few days away, so stay tuned for the latest developments!
