as the calendar page flipped from may to june, we had some nice thundershowers move through the area... the first wave associated with a new upper-level disturbance approaching from the west. i have 0.40" (1.0cm) in the rain gauge this morning... but i'm not sure how much of that gets credited to may, and how much to june! the pre-sunrise temp is 68.4F (20.2C), but my thermometer shows that it dipped to a chilly 60.8F (16C) while the rain was falling during the wee hours of the morning.
satellite pics show that there are several clusters of thundershowers and storms in various stages of life (some dying, some just developing) across northern pakistan and northern india. our upper-level disturbance will be centered just to our west by tonight... and that is going to put us in a prime spot for another couple of rounds of showers and thunderstorms from later today through late thursday night. it looks like there will be enough moisture and enough dynamic energy available to give us a strong thunderstorm or two, along with the potential for some moderate to heavy rainfall. there won't be continuous storminess between now and tomorrow night... but keep an eye to the sky and be prepared for rapid changes.
things should quiet down on friday, and continue relatively calm through the weekend, as temperatures start to warm up again. we've had a string of 5 or 6 days with temperatures below normal for this time of year... but i have heard zero complaints about that...
WEDNESDAY: partly to mostly cloudy skies. cooler, with a period or two of showers and thunderstorms.
high: 25C (77F)
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: mostly cloudy... good chance of a round of showers and thunderstorms.
low: 17C (62F)
THURSDAY: clouds and a few peeks of sun. unseasonably cool, with a few showers and thunderstorms in the area.
