thunder has been rumbling to the south since about 5am, and skies are mostly cloudy at dawn this morning. the overnight low temp has been a pleasant 66.4F (19.1C). there has been no rainfall overnight up here at the top of mcleod ganj. satellite photos are currently unavailable for some reason... hopefully they'll be back up soon.
we remain wedged between an unusually strong low pressure system parked over central tibet, and that large, sprawling area of high pressure from the persian gulf into punjab and rajasthan. this combination is providing us with a flow from the north-northeast in the upper atmosphere... and keeping scattered showers and thundershowers popping up and dying all along the western and central himalayas. it has also cooled our temperatures down a few degrees from where we were last weekend into early this week. computer model guidance says that this tibetan low pressure system will weaken and move out of the picture, to be replaced again by generally fair and warmer weather... but so far i am seeing little tangible evidence of that.
it looks like the sun will continue to play hide-and-seek with the clouds, with random showers and thundershowers roaming the area today (rainfall on the light side)... with perhaps a turn to a bit more sunshine and lower rain chances as we approach the weekend. temperatures should remain fairly pleasant for this time of year... but could bounce back into the "normal" range between saturday and monday...
THURSDAY: a mix of clouds and sunshine with comfortable temps. a couple of showers and thundershowers in the area.

FRIDAY: partly sunny skies. still risk of a random shower or thundershower.
