nearly perfect weather this evening, with pleasant temps and mostly sunny skies about an hour before sunset. there was a period of thick clouds during the mid-afternoon, but i never heard so much as a single rumble of thunder or saw one drop of rain. the day's high temp was 75.4F (24.1C)... about 8F (4C) below normal for early june. a recap of total rainfall during the past 48 hours: 1.43" (3.6cm).
our recent storm system lost steam very quickly after the thundershowers overnight, and was never able to fire up the final round that i was expecting. this evening, there are still some random showers and thunderstorms over northern pakistan and kashmir which could possibly wander through here later tonight before dissipating. after that, we are in for an extended period of generally quiet conditions, as high pressure in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere strengthens. we will be in the classic pattern that can produce isolated afternoon/evening thundershowers over the mountains... but those will be few and far between, and won't deliver rainfall like we've seen this week.
temperatures have been running below normal for exactly one week now, but we're gonna go for a steady warm-up which stands a chance of persisting right through the next 5 days. no, monsoon isn't here yet... still another 4 weeks of summer ahead!
