there are a few breaks in the overcast to the south and west, otherwise skies are mostly cloudy just before sunset this evening. glimpses of sunshine turned out to be a rarity today... so we only saw a high temp of 76.1F (24.5C), pleasantly cooler than expected. there were a few brief periods of showers between about 12:30 and 3:30pm, but in my rain gauge, it only amounted to 0.08" (2mm).
counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise) circulation around an area of upper-level low pressure in the middle of tibet is responsible for generating the persistent cloudiness and occasional showers and thundershowers of the past 24 hours or so. the clouds and showers have been driven southwestward from the mountains... but haven't contained a lot of moisture... thus the very light rainfall totals. this feature is expected to weaken during the next day or so, allowing upper-level high pressure to our west to build back into the area over the weekend. even so, i am not at all confident that we can totally get rid of the potential for afternoon and evening thundershowers in the midst of some long stretches of hazy sunshine.
after four warm days in a row, it was nice to get some cooler weather today, but a return to seasonable warmth is likely. there are still plenty of opportunities for a few days of very warm weather before monsoon conditions set in...
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: still some showers and thundershowers in the area until midnight... otherwise partly to mostly cloudy.
