skies are perfectly clear this morning, for a change... with a temp of 53.8F (12.1C). the new rainfall from last night's thundershowers totalled 0.73" (1.9cm), giving us a grand total of 1.53" (3.9cm) for the last 3 days. that is pretty close to the average/normal rainfall for the entire month of april!
it IS good to get rain during the typically "dry" season... it goes a long way in helping our water supply, but for those longing for some sunshine and warmer temps, it will be payback time during the next 3 days or so. our weather pattern is going to calm down between now and friday, as a weak ridge of high pressure builds in the upper atmosphere. this time of year, it is rare to totally squelch the afternoon convective clouds (and subsequent thunder/sprinkles) over the mountains, but i think any rainfall between now and friday will be brief and very light. temps are warming in all levels of the atmosphere, so we should rebound into a range that it is a little closer to normal for mid-april.
this won't last long, however, as another upper-level disturbance makes its way into the area by the weekend. at this point, it doesn't look as ominous as the one we've just dealt with, but showers and thunderstorms will be back in the forecast, nonetheless...
