today definitely wins the award for the nicest day of the month... along with being the second warmest of the entire year. other than a feeble build-up of cumulus clouds over the mountains during the first half of the afternoon, we had tons of sunshine today, and a high temp of 76.5F (24.7C). it was a relief to see that the instability has now diminished to a point where PM thundershowers over the mountains could not occur.
the long-advertised warming in all levels of the atmosphere is now in full swing, but has only just begun. we'll continue to see temperatures rise through the weekend and into early next week, as high pressure becomes established across the western himalayas. this is one of the most pleasant weather patterns we get all year in this part of the world, and is to be enjoyed! further down the mountain, temperatures will become downright HOT... with one computer model forecasting 35C (95F) for kangra by tuesday. up here, we'll finally be going above normal for at least a few days, for the first time this month.
rain chances will be very slim through the middle of next week, but as we all know, with the dhauladars so close, isolated, random afternoon thundershowers can occur anytime, with little advance notice... so keep that in mind if you plan to be hiking, trekking, camping or otherwise enjoying our great outdoors...
