we have light rain, cloudy skies, and a very chilly 44F (6.7C) early this sunday morning. the wind has also been gusty at times overnight but so far, nothing like it was last weekend. i have 0.30" (7.6mm) in my rain gauge here on tushita road just below the mountaineering center. currently, the snow line appears to be somewhere between triund and galu temple... around 2500m (8200ft).
the temperatures really took a dive overnight with the onset of the steady light rain, and i think it will be hard for us to recover too much, unless we are blessed with a bit of sunshine...which is probably unlikely. the satellite view this morning shows the center of our storm system right over the middle of afghanistan... but it is moving very very slowly. there are going to be multiple waves of energy moving eastward across our area during the next few days... and that's going to keep us in a very unstable/unsettled weather pattern right into the middle of the week. there is plenty of moisture available from the arabian sea, and as that gets drawn into the mix, expect periods of rain to continue... along with the potential for a thunderstorm or two.
we'll have to carefully watch the rain/snow line as it creeps gradually down the mountain. but at this point, i expect accumulating snow to remain well above 2000m (6500ft) until at least monday night or tuesday morning.
