There are a few clouds lingering along the mountains at sunset this evening, after another day featuring plenty of sunshine along with comfortable temperatures for the first half of February. Some high clouds this morning quickly vanished, with only a modest build-up of cumulus over the Dhauladhars during the afternoon.
The first day of Tibetan Losar is tomorrow (Monday), with official observation of the New Year continuing through Wednesday. It still looks like there will be very few hindrances due to weather, as a generally quiet pattern prevails. A weak trough of low pressure in the upper atmosphere is just now starting to develop over Afghanistan, which will shift the flow aloft to the southwest for most of the coming week. Despite an increasingly unsettled atmosphere, a few more clouds, and perhaps a better chance of some light rain/snow showers in the mountains, things should remain fairly calm until Friday. That's when it looks like we may see a stronger storm system develop just to our west, leading to a better chance of at least some light rain (and snow higher up) next weekend.
A very mild air mass will lend itself to some of the mildest temperatures since at least the middle of December between now and Friday. If there's not too much of in increase in clouds during the latter half of the week, it's likely that we'll surpass 60F (15.5C) -- giving us a little bit of a preview of Spring.
