daytime high temp: 75.7F (24.3C)
rainfall since 6:30am: 0.05" (1mm)
clouds and fog are quite thick early this evening, and near the main market, some light rain is falling. so far, rainfall today has been very light, with even some nice periods of sunshine during the morning, and again during the late afternoon. in between, we did see a period or two of very light rain and a rumble or two of thunder.
during sunny breaks, it is very very tempting to think that the monsoon season has nearly come to an end, but i can assure you, we have a ways to go. during september, we do tend to get a general decrease in daily average rainfall rates, and a greater likelihood of fog and clouds yielding to a few hours of sun... but upper-air data, satellite imagery (including water vapor imagery which identifies the moisture content of the atmosphere) and surface weather features indicate that genuine monsoon conditions remain firmly entrenched across all of northern india, and extend westward into a large part of pakistan as well. there are no approaching features which have the strength to dislodge and sweep this monsoon moisture out of here... at least in the next week to 10 days.
on the bright side, outdoor humidity readings the last couple of days have been mainly in the 80-85% range, which is certainly at least a bit more acceptable than the 90-100% range during a majority of the days in august.
i tracked down this blog posting from last september which explains what needs to happen for us to get the monsoon ushered out of here. check it out.
