skies are mostly cloudy again this evening... after another day that followed pretty close to the pattern we've been seeing for the past week. nice healthy sunshine until about 11am boosted our high temp to 71.4F (21.9C), and a thundershower between about 1:40 and 2:00pm was responsible for 0.09" (2mm) of rainfall.
but... today was the day that the india meteorological department has chosen to withdraw monsoon 2011 from himachal pradesh, along with other large parts of northern india. (official statement here) i have to say... this has been a strange withdrawal/retreat period. there is no doubt that the monsoon rains shut off quite abruptly on the 16th of the month... since that date, we've only received 0.78" (2cm) of rain. but this daily thick cloudiness and fog from the mid-day hours into the evening is still something that shows no signs of relenting. the only times i've been away from mcleod during the latter half of september during the last 10 years were in 2007 and 2008... and i really don't recall anything quite like this. but maybe that's why i've always been addicted to weather... there are no fail-safe formulas, and no hard and fast rules. the varieties of scenarios are infinite.!!
anyway, despite the official declaration from on high, i don't really think we're going to see a sudden turn to wall-to-wall sunshine and zero fog. expect the status quo until further notice...
