yesterday's high temp: 75.7F (24.3C)
this morning's low temp: 63.5F (17.5C)
24 hour rainfall as of 6:30am: 0.39" (0.99cm)
... and 0.34" (9mm) of that rainfall has occurred since about 5:20am this morning (update @ 423pm... 0.72"/1.8cm for the day). so much for the "mainly afternoon" rain and thunder! satellite pics this morning show a pretty good sized area of thundershower activity covering much of central and western himachal, fed by surface and mid-level winds coming in from the southeast once again.
expect the monsoon mix of clouds, occasional fog, a period or two of sun, and inevitable downpours of moderate to heavy rain to continue right through the forecast period. computer models are keeping average humidity readings in the 82-95% range through the end of the week, as wave after wave of tropical moisture continue to drift northward against the mountains. the upper-air pattern is almost dead calm, so areas of rain and thunder, once they get going, could hang around for several hours.
remember to check monsoon withdrawal... how do we know? from last september, for some perspectives on this final month of the rainy season...
