another wet day... it has been raining pretty much continuously, with only a few brief breaks. i've recorded an additional 0.96" (2.4cm) as of 7:30pm*, which brings us up to 6.37" (16.2cm)* since this latest rainy spell began on wednesday afternoon. today's high temp was the coolest of the month... 66.6F (19.2C).
[*updated at 730pm]
we're still getting bursts of moderate rain this evening, and satellite pics show the center of our "game-changing" upper-level disturbance centered along the pakistan/kashmir border, just to the southwest of srinagar. there are still numerous clusters of rain with embedded thundershowers from extreme east-central pakistan, across punjab and himachal, into southern kashmir... all of the activity moving to the east and northeast. this system will pass by overnight and early saturday, and as it does, it will push the deep monsoon airmass out of the northwest part of india. over the weekend, we'll enjoy a dramatic change... the first real signs of the new season.
all of the forecast guidance and computer model data i am seeing today is pointing to a much drier, less humid and sunnier scenario for next week. at this point, i'm not going to totally take the chance of scattered rain showers out of the forecast, since there could still be enough moisture around to stir up the mainly afternoon mountain shower action... but confidence is building that the days of 90-100% humidity, thick fog and frequent heavy downpours are quickly drawing to a close. check back for further updates throughout the weekend...
