well... it wasn't the night i was expecting! thunderstorms rapidly developed just to our west-northwest around midnight, and came knocking on our door around 2:00am. then we've had a secondary wave coming through during the hour before sunrise. i have 0.18" (5mm) in the rain gauge (updated @ 7:30am) here on the top side of town... with an early morning temp of 64.4F (18C). it's also quite windy at the time of this writing.
one of these compact, fast-moving upper-level disturbances which was ignored by the computer models and not visible from the satellite perspective is scooting through the area early this morning. as i've mentioned before, these things are notoriously stealth and difficult to track, and generally drive meteorologists insane. anyway, it appears to be exiting to the east shortly, and i expect the sunshine to return today, allowing us to resume our summer-time weather.
here on the edge of the himalayas, we get to be in the "battle zone" between the super-heated air on the plains to our south, and the constant volatility of the colder and unstable mountain air. for the next few days, we'll be in a pattern where periods of sunshine and very warm temps will be punctuated by periods of mainly afternoon and overnight thundershowers. all in all, quite normal for the month of may... although temps will continue to edge a bit above average...
TUESDAY: thundershowers rapidly ending this morning, then becoming partly to mostly sunny. an isolated thunderstorm is possible again during the late afternoon.
high: 28C (83F)
TUESDAY NIGHT: partly cloudy with a slight chance of a thundershower.
low: 19C (67F)
WEDNESDAY: sunny to partly cloudy and very warm, with a PM thundershower possible.
high: 29C (85F)
THURSDAY: still a risk of a shower or thunderstorm... otherwise partly sunny.
high: 29C (84F)
FRIDAY: partly to mostly sunny skies with just a slight chance of a PM thunderstorm.
high: 29C (84F)
SATURDAY: plenty of sunshine... continued very warm.
