rainless thunder... (pm.18.may.11)>

right on cue, thunder rumbled from about 2:20pm until 5:00pm, but as far as i know, there has been not so much as a sprinkle of rain in mcleod ganj.  we saw a good amount of sun this morning into the very early afternoon, which boosted our high temp to 84.4F (29.1C)according to my records, today is the 10th day in a row with a high temp of 80F or above.

satellite photos this evening show quite a few thundershowers along the front ranges of the himalayas, but it seems that most of the action has remained in the higher elevations so far.  we could still catch a shower or some thunder overnight... and then reload and repeat the scenario tomorrow.  temperatures in the upper atmosphere have been gradually cooling for the past 24 hours or so, while surface temps remain very warm.  that's what creates an unstable airmass... which leads to scattered showers and storms.

we're still watching a potent upper-level disturbance which should move through here late friday and saturday.  it will cause our temps to drop a few degrees, and also give us a better chance of some significant rainfall in addition to thunder and gusty winds.  it's still a long way off... but i am a little worried about conditions for the third and final IPL cricket match in dharamsala on saturday afternoon/evening.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of a thundershower or two.

FRIDAY: a mix of haze, clouds and sun, with a couple of showers and thunderstorms in the area.
high: 28C (82F)

SATURDAY: partly to mostly cloudy skies... not as warm.  good chance of a period or two of showers and thunderstorms.
high: 26C (79F)

SUNDAY: risk of a lingering shower or thundershower, otherwise partly cloudy and pleasant.
high: 27C (80F)

MONDAY: sunny to partly cloudy and warming up again.
high: 28C (83F)
