unrelenting summer... (am.01.jul.12)>

Sunshine is dominant early on this first morning of July.  It has been quiet, dry and warm overnight -- I recorded a low temp of 75.0F (23.9C), which is the warmest since the 22nd of June.

I can't emphasize enough how unusual this weather pattern is for this time of year.  A very strong bubble of high pressure is established from the surface into the middle and upper-layers of the atmosphere across Pakistan and northwestern India, providing way above average temperatures and suppressing all but one or two isolated thundershowers.  Temperatures today and tomorrow will be close to the highest of the entire season -- above normal by at least 5C/10F over a very wide area.  Rainfall should continue to be limited to some isolated activity which should remain up at the higher elevations.

As we've been talking about the last few days, there are monumental changes on the way, however.  The pattern at the surface and the high levels of the atmosphere is going to be shifting significantly by the middle of the week, allowing genuine monsoon moisture to surge northwestward into northern India.  It is likely that our humidity levels will climb into the 80-100% range by late Wednesday or Thursday, with some widespread fog, rain and thunder developing.  Some years, monsoon conditions arrive by increments, but this year, after a very feeble pre-monsoon phase, we could be looking at a very dramatic onset.  Of course, stay tuned as things evolve...
