It is partly to mostly cloudy at sunrise this morning with some very light haze and fog around the area, as the humidity reading hovers right around 90%. I recorded an overnight low temp of 67.8F (19.9C), and there has been no additional rainfall since last evening's report.
The monsoon remains in a rather feeble phase at the moment. There have been scattered showers and moderate to heavy downpours along the mountains from southwestern Kashmir through Himachal Pradesh into Uttarakhand since Sunday, but there has been a noticeable lack of widespread areas of heavy rain and fog. This is primarily due to the fact that a weak west-northwesterly flow in the upper atmosphere is preventing deep tropical moisture from becoming firmly entrenched across northern India. There may be some gains during the next couple of days, but it doesn't look like much of a certainty. For us living here at 6000ft/1800m, regardless of the overall pattern, we're almost always in line for at least scattered showers and thundershowers which develop daily along the front slopes of the Dhauladars. We'll also experience periods where the air mass reaches the saturation point and produces some thick fog -- but we should also continue to see some glimpses of sun in the midst of it all.
Temperatures have been fairly consistent since last Tuesday when monsoon conditions moved in. Highs have ranged from 71-79F (22-26C), and lows have been between 64F and 69F (18-21C), and should continue to fluctuate within that fairly narrow range, depending on our alternating blasts of sunshine and bursts of rain.
