Skies are mostly cloudy early this Thursday morning -- there are a few light showers (and some thunder) around, and a couple of large patches of fog have been surging and retreating up and down the hillsides during the past half hour or so. I've recorded a rather cool overnight low of 65.7F (18.7C), along with an additional 0.20" (5mm) of rain since 10pm. That gives us a total of 4.88" (12.4cm) since late Tuesday morning -- not a bad start to our monsoon season.
Lots of different things happening in the atmosphere right now... the flow aloft is from the west-northwest, but in the lower layers, it turns more from the east-southeast. With all this deep and juicy tropical moisture now in the area, this differential in the wind fields in different layers of the atmosphere will keep occasional showers and thunder developing -- with the potential for heavy rains remaining with us for several days. We haven't even reached full saturation yet, but as more moisture gets pumped in from the southeast, we should see longer and longer periods of thick fog developing.
Yesterday, according to the computer models, it was looking like we could see a bit of a respite during the early part of next week, but now I'm not really seeing that. It's not going to rain continuously, but more than likely, we'll remain close to the saturation point (80-100% humidity) with periods of moderate rain surging in and out of here right through the five-day forecast period...
