It is mostly cloudy, hazy and humid across the area this evening. You've probably noticed that our humidity today has been the highest of the season... specifically, in the 70-80% range for much of the day. The sun began to disappear by mid-morning, and was only able to peek through a few times thereafter. There was some faint thunder and a few sprinkles of rain during the afternoon hours, but I had no measurable rainfall at my location in the upper part of town. My high temp reached just 82.9F (28.3C), thanks to the murky skies.
There are a few scattered thundershowers lurking from southwestern Kashmir through Himachal and into Uttarakhand at the moment, taking advantage of this juicy air mass which has been moving in during the past day or so. Tropical moisture will continue to advance from the southeast during the coming few days, as the very warm and dry high pressure system dominating the area for the last several days retreats to the west. Already, this increase in humidity has been dramatic (and uncomfortable), but this is only the beginning. We should start to experience genuine monsoon conditions by Thursday, with humidity in the 80-100% range, occasional fog, and some thunder with downpours of heavy rain. If you've never experienced this monsoon onset phenomenon before, you might be impressed!
