It is cloudy at the moment, with some patches of light fog and a few rain showers around the area. We've been back and forth between clouds and sun several times today, with some thunder and a few brief sprinkles/very light showers during the early afternoon and again early this evening. Things are looking rather ominous at the time of this writing, but we'll see if heavier showers develop or not. As of 5:00pm, there had been only a trace of rainfall at my location, along with a high temp of 75.4F (24.1C).
*Update @ 7:20pm... 0.12" (3mm) of rain has fallen in the upper part of town... most of that 6:00-6:30pm.
This relatively weak phase of the monsoon continues across the northwest third of India. Humidity here at the surface in the McLeod area remains high -- generally at or above 80% -- but the issue is still a major lack of sustained tropical moisture in the upper-levels of the atmosphere to keep things saturated. Our daily average rainfall since the start of monsoon conditions 12 days ago has now dropped just below 1" (2.5cm) per day, and the only reason it remains that high is the massive daily totals we had more than a week ago.
The next appreciable surge of deep tropical moisture is being advertised by all the computer models by the latter part of the week. That could bring us more typical/normal weather for the middle of July, but until then, expect more of this flip-flopping between periods of showers and periods of sun... as the fog remains rather scarce and short-lived...
