Sunshine, some clouds, and a few rumbles of thunder are all happening simultaneously early on this Thursday morning. I recorded 0.80" (2cm) of total rainfall from last evening's thundershowers, which brings us up to 9.73" (24.7cm) since the 3rd of July. Check the JULY RAINFALL tab above for detailed statistics. The overnight low temp here in the upper part of town was 66.2F (19.0C).
Satellite pics show scattered shower/thundershower development in nearly all directions -- but the flow in the upper atmosphere is light and variable, so these thundershowers will drift pretty much any direction they please. During the coming 12 hours or so, we'll come under the influence of a definite northwesterly flow aloft, while in the lower-levels, the flow will remain generally from the south and southeast. That means there will be little change in our overall situation. Occasional downpours and thundershowers will remain likely, with some fog at times as well... while the sun tries hard to make an appearance here and there. This whole scenario is a bit weird for the middle of July when normally we are immersed in thick fog for the majority of both day and night, with not much of an opportunity to catch glimpses of the sun.
Looking ahead to the weekend and beyond, this rather tepid monsoon phase should continue, with just enough moisture to keep occasional downpours in the forecast, but just enough lingering drier air aloft to provide us with some calm and bright periods as well...
