We have clouds, fog and random patches of blue sky across the area this evening, at the end of a rather active day. Sunshine was overcome by clouds and occasional fog for the vast majority of the day... with an extended period of showers and a few rumbles of thunder between about 1:30 and 4:30pm which produced a healthy 0.90" (2.3cm) of rain at my place on Tushita Road. That makes about 3.6" (9.1cm) since noon on Wednesday. I recorded a high temp of 76.6F (24.8C) during the mid-morning before clouds and fog thickened up.
The painfully slow advance of this latest surge of monsoon conditions continues, and finally today, it looks and feels like we're back in the neighborhood of where we should be for this time of year. Winds aloft are very light, so any showers and thundershowers that develop won't be moving very quickly, allowing for some locally heavy rainfall amounts during the coming days. It still remains to be seen how entrenched this deep tropical moisture will become, so there's a good chance we could see some bright periods from time to time in the midst of the clouds, fog and showers.
Extended range computer data doesn't show any appreciable drop in the moisture content of the atmosphere all the way into next weekend -- so I think our rainfall totals during the coming seven days will be well above our totals for the previous seven. We've only had two days with more than 2" (5cm) of rain this monsoon season... and we'll need to add to that if we have any hope of ending July anywhere close to normal.
