We have a good amount of sunshine yet again early on this Monday morning. It has been a quiet night, with no rainfall since the brief showers of early last evening which amounted to just 0.12" (3mm) here in the upper part of town. I've recorded a pleasant overnight low temp of 67.5F (19.7C).
I'm running out of ways to describe this rather lackluster phase of monsoon conditions we've been stuck in for the past several days. If you're a regular reader, you've heard it all before -- a general west-northwesterly flow in the upper-levels of the atmosphere is keeping deeper tropical moisture from becoming firmly established across north India, despite the good amount of surface moisture available. Due to our mountain-effects, we're still getting plenty of cloud development and occasional showers and thundershowers, but rainfall recently has been much more characteristic of what we normally experience during the pre-monsoon season.
All of that may change by the latter part of the week. A major pattern shift is anticipated, which will allow that deeper moisture to surge back into northern India, especially by late Thursday and Friday. Expect an increase in clouds, fog, and rainfall frequency and intensity by the time the weekend arrives.
