on our way... (am.04.jul.12)>

It is cloudy with some light fog this morning -- and rain showers continue at the time of this posting.  It may have begun earlier, but I first noticed lightning, a rumble or two of thunder, and some rain falling at around 3:15am.  There have been a few bursts of moderate to heavy rain at times, and my rain gauge shows 0.92" (2.3cm) up to this point (just before 7am).  In spite of the humidity, our temps have cooled down into a more pleasant range -- my low this morning has been 68.7F (20.4C).

*Update @ 9:20am... I have 1.70" (4.3cm) of rain since about 3am.  That brings my 24 hour total to 2.90" (7.4cm).  Raining moderately-heavily at the moment in the upper part of McLeod Ganj.

We are apparently past the point of no return, with regard to this year's monsoon advance into our neighborhood.  Mountain micro-climate factors always exacerbate the impact of the arriving deep, rich, tropical moisture, which has indeed been the case during the past 24 hours or so.  A southeasterly flow in the lower and middle layers of the atmosphere will continue to transport this tropical air in our direction, so we'll be flirting with the 100% saturation point all the way into the weekend, with periods of fog and rain becoming more and more prevalent.  It is very likely that we'll have rainfall totals exceeding 6 inches (15cm) between now and late Saturday or Sunday.  Quick laundry-drying weather has definitely come to an abrupt halt!

Looking further ahead, there are some hints that we could see a bit of a respite by the early part of next week -- meaning, rainfall frequency could diminish and humidity may drop slightly.  However, I'm fairly certain that there will be no long-lasting retreat of monsoon conditions.
