It is mostly cloudy and rather cool early on this Saturday morning -- I recorded an overnight low temp of 63.3F (17.4C), which is actually the coolest temperature since the 27th of June. We had a brief thundershower around 3:00am... rain was very heavy for just a few minutes... which left 0.40" (1.0cm) in my rain gauge here on Tushita Road below the mountaineering center. That gives us a total of 1.46" (3.7cm) since early Friday morning. Remember to check the JULY RAINFALL tab (above) for detailed stats.
Rainfall has actually been running fairly close to normal for July, but I'm still amazed by the lack of widespread cloudiness and fog thus far during the monsoon season this year. Surface humidity is high enough (80-100%), but the drier air remaining in the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere is preventing us from experiencing the full saturation that normally occurs consistently and regularly by this time. This situation isn't putting much of a damper on the shower and thundershower action, but that is due in large part to the normal dynamics we experience here along the front ranges of the mountains.
So... this generally feeble phase of monsoon conditions should continue for us into the middle of next week. We'll have occasional downpours with thunder... with some heavy rain at times... but extended periods of fog and thick clouds aren't really expected. A refreshing interlude of sunshine or two will likely occur on any given day, which is normally a very rare event for the middle of July...
