Some light to moderate showers have been starting and stopping since about 4:00pm -- I'll report back with a rain gauge report later this evening -- but as of 5:00pm, there had been only a trace in the upper part of town. It's mostly cloudy with fog increasing with elevation at the time of this posting. Sunshine early this morning, along with a few glimpses thereafter boosted my high temp to 78.1F (25.6C), as humidity has fluctuated between 80% and about 95%.
*Update @ 7:37pm... Cloudy and foggy in the upper part of town, with some bursts of heavier showers during the past hour or so. I have 0.36" (9mm) in my rain gauge.
Today has been pretty inactive across most of Himachal Pradesh, the exception being the huge build-up of clouds and random showers/thundershowers along the front ranges of the mountains. Full-scale, full-blown, widespread monsoon conditions aren't really occurring just yet across much of northern India, thanks to the pockets of drier air in the middle and upper-levels of the atmosphere we've been talking about the last few days. Still, occasional downpours along with some thunder are likely... along with some periods of fog developing at times. At our elevation during the monsoon season, we can get a massive downpour of rain at any time, no matter what the large-scale weather charts are saying.
It does look like we'll see a gradual, incremental increase in the depth of this tropical moisture as the week progresses -- so I think the general trend will be toward more widespread fog and rain and less sunshine between tomorrow and the weekend.
