It is partly sunny with comfortable temps this evening, but our humidity is still on the high side -- right around 75%. We've had an unusual amount of sunshine today, considering it is now officially monsoon season... but there was a dramatic build-up of clouds by mid-morning, and a period of rain and thunder between noon and about 2pm which brought 0.69" (1.8cm) of rain to my location in the upper part of town. That now brings our total since Tuesday morning when the monsoon rainfall began up to 7.86" (20.0cm). I recorded a Sunday high temp of 76.3F (24.6C).
Monsoon conditions in northern India remain just moderate at most, as pockets of drier air continue to drift through in the middle and upper-levels of the atmosphere. This has led to some wild swings between sun, clouds, fog and heavy showers since Friday. It looks like there will still be a deficiency of upper-level moisture until the latter half of this week, so that should continue to provide us with some sunny breaks in the midst of the monsoon clouds, fog and downpours of rain. Unfortunately, humidity will remain too high to really take much advantage of the periods of sunshine to get our laundry thoroughly dry -- my personal 'least favorite' part of the season.
A more ominous surge of deep tropical moisture may arrive by late Wednesday, and last through the end of the week. That may put a damper on the sunshine potential, while giving us a greater chance of consistent fog and heavy rainfall...
