Skies are partly to mostly sunny this evening... perhaps the most pleasantly warm evening of the year in progress. I recorded a high temp of 80.8F (27.1C), which is the new HIGH of 2012. We've had no rainfall today (that I am aware of), but there were some faint rumbles of thunder just up the mountain between about 3 and 4pm.
Although there are some widely scattered thundershowers roaming the mountains from central Kashmir through Himachal and Uttarakhand just before sunset, we've been able to escape the action, and it looks like we've progressed toward more stability, overall. Those "territorial battles" between colder air lingering over the mountains and the massive surge of summer-time air coming up from the south that we've discussed recently appear to have been at least temporarily resolved -- in favor of the warmer air. Our temp jumped 9F/4C today, and now we've landed back above average for this stage of the month of May. We'll remain under the influence of this summerish air mass for the rest of the week, so we could see even more warming during the coming few days.
Unfortunately, the risk of random showers and thunderstorms remains with us as well, which could again play "spoiler" with regard to these warm temps. Especially by Friday and Saturday, it looks like we'll be dealing with an approaching upper-level disturbance which may bring some thunderstorms of a more widespread nature...
