briefly cooler... (pm.22.may.12)>

A very pleasant late May evening in progress... with mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures.  Due to occasional clouds and some light thundershowers today, my high temp in the upper part of town only reached 79.0F (26.1C) -- the coolest of the past ten days.  Those thundershowers delivered another 0.03" (1mm) of rain during the early afternoon, which gives us a total of 0.29" (7mm) since late Sunday night.  That's a very paltry amount, considering the thunder, lightning and gusty winds we've endured on a few occasions (especially during the early AM hours!).

We're now watching the demise of this upper-level storm system which has been in the area for nearly 48 hours.  It will disappear altogether overnight and be replaced by a building ridge of high pressure aloft that should be in control of our weather until Saturday.  Sunshine will be plentiful, with a very rapid warming trend between tomorrow and the weekend that will likely take our temperatures to their highest levels of the season.

A minor disturbance is scheduled to move through on Saturday, which may increase our chance of a passing thunderstorm once again... but then dry and even warmer weather is being advertised by the computer models as next week unfolds.
