Yet another super-fantastic May morning getting underway, with 100% clear skies as the sun climbs above the mountains. My overnight low here in the upper part of town was a comfortable 66.2F (19.0C) -- and there has been just a trace of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
Our weather pattern recently has been characterized by a seasonably warm and stable air mass in the lower levels of the atmosphere, and a westerly flow aloft, which has been delivering occasional weak disturbances to northern India. As is fairly typical for this time of year, there isn't a lot of moisture available, so these disturbances haven't been able to do much more than stir up some afternoon and evening thundershowers over the mountains, with very little precipitation happening further downhill. There was a fresh coating of snow on the Dhauladars yesterday afternoon... an indication that there are indeed some pockets of much colder air associated with these passing upper-level disturbances.
Expect more of this gorgeous May sunshine during the coming several days... but also just continue to be aware that mountain thunder development could slide downhill one of these afternoons, or develop on the plains to our southwest. Temperatures will most likely remain on the PLUS side of normal... with the potential for us to match or surpass the warmest of 2012 so far (86F/30C) between now and the weekend.
