A May evening for the history books... with mostly sunny skies and pleasantly warm temperatures. There was the usual build-up of clouds over the mountains at mid-day, but for the second day in a row, we escaped raindrops in McLeod. I recorded a high temp of 86.0F (30.0C)... the first time we've hit 30C this year... and this is now seven days of the last eight that we've exceeded 80F! I think it's safe to say that Himalayan summer is now firmly established.
I really hate to keep harping on the potential for a stray shower or thunderstorm, but experience shows that as soon as we get complacent and think we're ineligible... we get hit. There are still random weak disturbances present in the upper-atmospheric flow (another of which will drift through tomorrow), so there remains that risk of some development at some point during the coming few days. Otherwise, humidity is low and the strength of the early summer sun is very high... so we'll continue to see more hours of sun than rain. It's arguably the biggest tourism week of the year in the Dharamsala area, due to the IPL matches on Thursday and Saturday, so hopefully the great weather will hold.
Temps have warmed more aggressively than anticipated the last two days, so we'll continue to expect them to be near the warmest of the year. Maybe the word HOT is becoming more appropriate for points further downhill...?
