A near perfect May evening in progress... with mostly sunny skies and very comfortable temperatures. It has been another back-and-forth kind of day, with everything ranging from full sunshine to thunder and hail. I've recorded 0.16" (4mm) of rain today, along with a high temp of 78.4F (25.8C) which occurred during the late afternoon. That high is the first one under 80F since last Sunday.
The brief hail storm we experienced during the noon hour is indicative of the much colder air present in the upper atmosphere as this latest series of disturbances tracks across northern India. Things look calm at the moment... and satellite pics aren't showing any new shower/thunderstorm development in the very near future. Still, there could be another wave of development overnight, and again at some point during our Sunday. The upper-levels will gradually calm down and warm up thereafter, but honestly, computer models are hinting at a bit of a disturbed flow right into the end of the coming week -- so we can't totally rule out an isolated thundershower on any given day.
As we've seen today, the May sunshine is never very far away, no matter how ominous the sky becomes from time to time. That strong early summer sun combined with a seasonably warm air mass lapping at the edge of the mountains will allow for a slow and gradual warming trend during the next several days...
