on approach... (pm.09.apr.12)>

We have mostly sunny skies early this evening, and it's breezy and pleasantly warm.  There are thunderstorms visible to the southeast of us, between Mandi and Shimla, but the Dhauladars have remained generally storm-free this afternoon.  I recorded a high temp of 77.7F (25.4C) shortly after 4:00pm.

Other thunderstorms are showing up on satellite pics to our west and northwest over Kashmir and northern Pakistan... in association with the upper-level disturbance which is now on approach.  Our risk of some shower and thunderstorm action will be gradually on the increase between late tonight and Wednesday as this system moves in.  It still looks like our best chances of rain will be tomorrow and Wednesday, but honestly, we're going to be dealing with a very unstable atmosphere throughout the week -- so I'll be very surprised if we don't come up with some significant rainfall (2cm / 0.80"+) by the time all is said and done.  It might be a good idea to avoid overnighting in the mountains this week, if you want to be on the safe side.

There are now indications that we may actually cool down BELOW normal by Friday, which will be the first time that has happened in a couple of weeks.  Stay tuned as this dynamic situation evolves...
