april excitement... (pm.10.apr.12)>

It is partly cloudy this evening, and there are no thundershowers going on at the moment.  We've had at least three distinct periods of showers and thunder today which have deposited a total of 0.53" (1.3cm) in my rain gauge in the upper part of town.  0.32" (8mm) of that has come since the last report at around 7:30am.  Due to the scarcity of sunshine today, the high temperature only struggled to 70.7F (21.5C) -- and that's the coolest since the 28th of March, nearly two weeks ago!

I am really impressed with the intensity of this upper-level disturbance which is currently moving from northern Pakistan into north India.  If you've been following the blog, you know that we've been watching this evolve for several days now, and anticipating a good bit of shower and thunderstorm activity.  Today's events indicate to me that this system has what it takes to continue bringing us a good chance of significant rainfall right through tomorrow night.  There will be breaks in the action, of course, but I think we should expect at least another round or two of thunder and rain during the coming 24-36 hours.  One computer model is forecasting more than 4cm (1.6") of additional rainfall, so it'll be interesting to see if we get anything close to that.

The remainder of the forecast period will continue to feature scattered thundershowers, since the atmosphere is going to remain unstable for several days.  The sun will also be making appearances though, which will rapidly warm things up after cool/rainy spells.  On balance, temperatures should be fairly close to normal for the middle of April -- but cooler than we've grown accustomed to recently -- as the weekend arrives.
